I am experiencing a lot of hip pain/sciatica especially when I sleep. It is getting to the point where I need to do something about it. I am considering Physical therapy vs. acupuncture vs a chiropractor.
Could you please recommend your therapist in any of these categories if they have helped you. Or, please recommend any other treatment modalities for that matter that have helped Thank you! Adrian |
I've had bad hip pain in pregnancy and also previously had sciatica pain from a pretty severe back injury (a few years ago). I'm a fan of acupuncture--the best is Kelly Welch at 18th and I Streets, 202-783-9404. I also did physical therapy before and after my back surgery at National Rehab Hospital (many locations) but I think you need a referral from your Dr. to go there.
My Orthopedist and my physical therapist said to be very careful of chiropractors. I know there are people who just love them but they can make things a lot worse if they don't manipulate things just right. Try also just doing some basic stretching/yoga and be sure to sleep with a pillow between your legs to keep your hips aligned. Sciatica is literally the worst pain I've ever felt, it's no fun. Good luck! |
i had sciatica so bad a month ago i could not walk without excrutiating pain and crying! i went to physical therapy once and it started to go away the day after that appointment. i'm pain free right now. i have never done PT before so i don't know if it was coincidence or what...but i'll definitely go back if it comes back.
the PT said to use ice, not heat. yes i used pillows too to put b/w my legs and one to support the other side....it was truly the worst pain i have ever been in so far!!! good luck! |
Who was the Physical Thearapist that you used? I would love a reccomendation if you don't mind...
Thanks |
Virginia Therapy (www.vtfc.com). Larry Grines. Good luck! I hope it helps! |
There are some really good stretches for Sciatic pain. The one that is easiest to do while pregnant is to sit in a chair and cross your legs "like a boy", right ankle to left knee (or the reverse), and lean forward or press down on the knee until you feel a really good stretch through your hip, hold that stretch, and repeat on the other side. I have found that if I do this whenever I have sciatic pain it goes away pretty quickly, and if I remember to do it daily I don't get it at all. Hope this helps, it truely is excruciating when it happens. |
