| Did anyone introduce solid food prior to six months? I'm wondering when to start solids and six months sounds a bit much to me. |
| We started at 4 months. DS has been at the top of the charts since he was born and by 4 months was hungry all the time. Our ped was fine with starting this early. We gave him rice cereal for a few days and then slowly added veggies and fruits. |
| We started rice cereal at 4 months. We took our time and introduced oatmeal about 3 weeks later. By six months, DS was eating about 5-6 items (fruits/ vegetables). We used a bumbo seat for feeding until he was able to sit up better in the high chair. |
| OP here: Sounds like my kid! He's 2 months today and hungry all the time!! 4 months sounds about right to me. Thanks. |
| We started at 6 months with rice cereal and super pureed foods (mixed with water to make it go down easier). |

Four monthes b/c he was hungry all the time and also constipated, so we started with prune juice, then prunes mixed in oatmeal (because rice is binding.) Then we got the Super Baby Foods book and followed that as a guide.
Our ped suggested that we start on the solids, btw. Have fun! Food is fun! |
| we started at 5 mo with rice cereal then moved to the pureed baby foods after two or three weeks. |

We waited until 6 months
DD was able to sit up, didn't have much of a gag reflux, figured out what to do with her tongue, loved the new taste and texture, and didn't spit out the food. Each baby is different...watch for the cues and try again after a few days (maybe change feed times, different spoon, cereal vs. oatmeal vs baby food) if at first you don't succeed. |
Same here. We started with oatmeal fruits, veggies and oatmeal cereal. We also only waited 3 days before introducing a new food. If you child is going to have an allergic reaction to something, it won't happen a week later! |
| We started at 4.5 months with rice cereal. |
| 14:19 poster here... I forgot to mention that ped told us DS would be ready for solid foods when he started taking a real interest in watching us eat and actually mouthing chewing. I thought that was silly, but it actually happened! one day while having a snack, DS was staring at my mouth and started pretending to chew. we started on solids shortly after then. |
| I agree with 1:17 --each baby is different. With baby # 1 I was anxious to start, and gave him rice cereal at 4 months --he spat it out for two months and then decided he liked it. With baby # 2 I am waiting until she is 6 mo. |
| 4 months. 2 days after he started, he slept through the night. |
