Quiet Time

If your child does a quiet time without napping, how long is it? We held on to what was a 2 hour nap time for quiet time, but now we are lucky if we get to an hour before he starts yelling that quiet time is too long and he wants to come out. Kid is almost four. What's reasonable to expect?

We get about an hour of actual quiet time where she plays independently in her room. If we need or want her to be calm longer, we allow 30 minutes of iPad after the first hour. This coincidences with a younger siblings nap. 5 year old.

Two hours feels too long. We've been doing independent playtime since my little one was about 5 months old, and now at 16 months, we do 30 mins 2x per day. I think 90 mins is about where I would max out. This site might help you: https://www.babywisemom.com/independent-playtime-overview/

We found that the best way to inch the time up (we started at 10 mins) was to have an alarm that beeps. That way, there's no use arguing or complaining, you have to wait for the beep. I'd probably set it at 45 minutes for now, and once he gets use to it, start bumping it up 5 minutes at a time until you get to 90 minutes. You might also consider doing 45 minutes twice a day.

We do an hour. Only if they stay in their rooms and actually do quiet time do they earn a tv show. So we get a total of 1.5 hours of downtime, and the kids pretty much never screw up because they love their tv time so much. Sad but true.

Hour to an hour and a half. Technically the Sound Machine goes off at 2:30, but he goes in at different times. He does a long chunk though of playing legos etc. I think he loves it compared to having to just lay there at daycare poor thing. Occasionally he will sleep 30 mins to an hour as well.

25min of doing nothing (bc he will occasionally fall asleep) and then 15 or so minutes of ipad time.

Two hours is a LONG time for a kid to happily play alone. I think we got 45 minutes at the most

45 minutes. Two hours would be too long for an adult much less a kid!

Between 30-60 mins depending on the kid.

Mine could do an hour to an hour and a half of quiet time from about 2.5 onward. But we don’t make our kid stay in their room. They can roam around the house. They just have to play alone and quietly. I think confining a kid to their bed/room would necessitate a shorter time.
