Credit cards that offer best airline mileage

We have a Citibank Platinum rewards card. This card awards points for the money you spend like all other cards. You also get double or triple points for gas, groceries, and a few other categories. The points are "Thank You" points and they have deals with Expedia for hotels and cars, not flights.

Here is the big one that is most unusual about this card. If you buy a plane ticket outright (not spending miles), not only do you get the points for the price of the ticket you also get points for the number of miles flow. For example, round trip DCA to San Francicso. Ticket price 500. Miles one way 5000. Total points earned 10,500.

Normally I'd say check out American Express which has an excellent rewards program but it sounds like you're looking for a promotional offer so you can take a trip soon, right?

What airline do you need?
Every year I get an AA citi master and same for United (cant remember now if it is Visa or MC). They give you 25k miles after the first 500 dollars you spend, first year the fee is waived (that is why i open them every year, once i have to pay the fee i cancel and get a new one). It's one mile per dollar spent.

Can you actually do this? I have the AA card too, and assumed that after cancelling, if you wanted to re-enroll you wouldn't get the bonus miles.

I have read you can actually do it every month, but that will ruin your credit I supposed.

I know for a fact you can do it every year because I have done it and used up all the miles for intl travel!

One reason of having a credit card is the airline miles being offered with it. When it concerns airlines miles the two criteria is if it is unique with specific airline or those that can be used with any airline companies. Among the credit cards that offer the best airline miles are:
Citi Gold/AAdvantage World MasterCard
Delta Airline-Gold Delta Skymiles Credit Card
Delta Reserve Credit Card
Platinum Delta Skymiles Credit Card
Virgin Atlantic American Express Card
Alaska Airline Credit Card

We also have the Citibank Platinum. Since 2006 we've purchased 14 round trip tickets for vacations using that card. The "Thank You" points are great because you aren't restricted to any airline. The best benefit was using miles from a prior AA card. We bought tickets to Jackson Hole but charged the taxes on those tickets to the new Citibank Platinum and we got all the miles on both tickets for the round trip and back to Jackson Hole. I seem to remember that it was like 16,000 miles total. The taxes were around 150.00.

We put everything on that card and pay it off every month so miles add up quickly.
