My baby is 4.5 weeks old. He’s my third but it’s been 4 years and I forget.
1. Schedules be darned, right? I just follow his lead? 2. I do the basics: bright and loud during the day and dark and boring at night 3. I try to keep him awake and feed every 2 hours during the day I get confused about hours 7pm-on ward. I had been trying to keep him awake and stopping him from falling into a deep sleep, and then I put him to sleep at 11. He seems to want to fall into a deep sleep around 830. I don’t think I want his deep asleep to be from 8:30 to 1:30. Do I? I usually sit on the couch with him and keep him awake or keep him feeding until 11. A handful of nights he’s slept 11-4! Other nights it’s 11-1, and then fussy all night. Thoughts? |
By 4.5 our bedtime was moving back and by 8 or 10 it was 7pm. |
But I don’t want the longest stretch to be from 7-2. Do I? I remember this with my other kids. I prefer the sleep to be from 10-3. Right? Or should I just go to bed? |
I would follow his lead and not try to keep him awake.
I wish I could take back the time and energy I spent worrying about schedules and sleep. I feel like kids are just wired how they are, especially at this young age. If it makes you feel any better, my 2nd liked to go to bed earlier from the beginning and he turned into my best sleeper, starting at around 8 weeks. |
Follow his lead! Don’t keep him up. The only thing I’d worry about schedule wise is waking at same time every day and feeding every 2-3 hours during the day. |
You may be making him overtired by keeping him awake. An overtired baby won’t sleep well. Let him get into a natural sleep pattern. Follow his lead. |
