Positive benefits of the pandemic/quarantining

Was able to get pregnant after miscarriages and many months of trying. Was able to WFH and be comfortable throughout the typical pregnancy symptoms. Now with a newborn, DH is still WFH and even though he isn’t full-on helping, he is able to provide some support when I need it throughout the day.

I lost weight do to food insecurity
My children got chance to do Instacart to help pay bills
My children suffered in their education due to distance learning, good to make them stronger

There is no bright side more people have died than in WWII, Vietnam and Korean wars combined every day as many people die as was killed in 9/11

I spend less money on food because I order everything online. Fewer impulse buys on junk food.
I haven't had to buy new clothes because it doesn't matter what I look like.
My skin is more healthy after not wearing makeup and it's nice not having to wear mascara.
Deliveries are contactless so I don't have to answer the door.
I don't have to pack lunches and get the kids out the door in the morning.
No nervous waiting in waiting rooms.
Less small talk because of masks.

As horrible as this last year has been, globally, I will forever cherish the silver linings we have benefited from. We have had quality family time at such critical kid ages, no work travel, family meals, bonding, saved money on travel and eating out and work related expenses. The sibling bonding has been incredible. We’ve re-evaluated out habits and consumption and spending, and have re-calibrated. We’ve gotten into a regular cadence of FaceTiming with relatives that we wouldn’t have seen in-person regularly anyway, but now have a routine distance relationship with. We’ve learned to coexist with each other’s flaws and annoying habits because we had no choice. I know we are in the very fortunate minority, and that privilege is not lost on me at all. This pandemic has made me so incredibly grateful, if nothing else.

Lucky for you, you’re not an essential worker. There are no benefits of the pandemic for us.

This is a nice answer and it sums up how I feel as well.

This pandemic has been horrible for so many people, and it feels strange to say: "Well, there was good to come out of this too". But I think you can be grateful for what you have, and also feel deep sadness for the collective grief of so many lives lost and lives changed.

Literally nothing other than takeout booze.

Walktails with friends, telemedicine, more outdoor exercisers than before. Not getting our usual colds and flus. Less traffic. For the more risk tolerant of us, smaller crowds in touristy places, which makes them easier for us to visit.
