Did you get in to West in the lottery?

Wanted to put a shout out to families who got into West in the DCPS lottery and let folks know about some upcoming opportunities to get to know the school. We hope you accept and enroll at West.

We have a Family Reading Night planned for tomorrow - Thursday March 4th at 5:30 with a puppet show for the littler kids and a reading friendly game night for the older kids. There is a 5 dollar a plate pasta dinner as well. Great opportunity to come out, see the campus, meet current families and teachers and get a feel for the school.

The PSCO will be hosting a series of play days in August for PS/PK/K families to help them get oriented to the school and meet other new and current families. There will also be a series of orientation nights the week before school starts. In May we will have a garden day to get community members into the Monarch Garden which will also include a play day for PS/PK/K families who want to see the school and meet other parents.

Join the West Yahoo group to stay up on the announcements for all these opportunities. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/WestParents/

thanks for posting...we did get into west and i have to say i know little about it. can you tell me what the hours for 3 yr old school day are and rough class size? thanks!

Class size at the PS/PL level is about 15 kids with a teacher and an aide. Sometimes a little smaller but not bigger.

A day is 8:45 to 3:15 with aftercare to 6:30 if needed.

They have morning circle, a series of short (45 minute learning centers), recess in between, lunch, recess again, quiet time/nap, more learning centers.

Learning centers are all play based but are for reading, math, science, arts. They also have free play time. There are 3 classes in the same large open space area (2 PS and 1 PK) so they get to interact and play together.

My kids love it.

My family is delighted to have gotten into West for the PS program! It was #1 on our lottery list, and we are excited to meet other West parents and students at tonight's Family Reading Night.
