patch of red scaly rough skin on cheek - eczema?

Anonymous
Our 9 month old frequently had little bumps and red patches all summer long on her face, especially when she got hot. it went away, but little by little a patch on her cheek started to form, and now it is about the size of a nickel on her cheek and bright red, dry/flaky and rough. i've tried aquaphor and aveeno and neither seem to help. what causes this and how do i treat it?

Sounds like eczema. Aquaphor usually works. If it doesn't help, bring her to the ped, who might prescribe something.

You can use hydrocortisone cream before applying aquaphor. If that doesn't work, you'll need prescription strength.

Could it be ringworm? Sounds disgusting, but really just a simple fungal infection treatable with OTC lotrimin cream. Check google images and see what you think.

It could be eczema or it could be Rosacea - I would check with your pediatrician.

It sounds like eczema. Hydrocortisone to start, followed by Vaseline, is what my peds recommended.

My DS has the exact same thing on his left cheek, which I just started treating. He also got a horrible patch of it on his forehead. For us, Aquaphor works like a charm...however the real root of his problem is dairy, and I'm BFding, which makes it terribly difficult to stay on my strict diet. Most exema is caused by an food intolearnce (different from allergy) and dairy tends to more often be the culprit.
