How do you get your energy back up at night?

Anonymous
I need to find a way to catch a second wind around 9:30 at night after the kids are in bed so I can get a few more hours of work done (covid and virtual school are killing me). How can I re-energize myself to be functional at that hour when all I want to do is fall over and sleep?

Exercise or caffeine. But you might want to rethink this, you are going to burn out. Can the kids settle down and read for a while before bed so you can start work at 8 pm or so?

Yeah, this is not a good idea. You're going to burn out and really mess up your sleep schedule. If your body is already screaming for sleep, then you need to listen to it and not try to pump yourself full of caffeine.

Agree with the PP who said see if you can put the kids in bed a little earlier and let them read. Or can you designate two hours from say 3-5 where you tell them you have to work?

If you're tired at 9:30 I would follow your natural rhythm and go to sleep, and get up early to get work done. Getting up at 5:30 would still give you 8 hours of sleep.

This is what I do, but I think I'm naturally an early bird. Tried caffeine in the afternoon but it messed with my sleep (of course) and I am just toast at night.

I eat a snack to energize me for awhile. Try mixes of carbs and protein, maybe a yogurt fruit smoothie. Or something spicy if your stomach can take it.

We have opposite problems. At 9:30 is when I finally start feeling energized. But during the afternoons I feel exhausted and generally blah. Maybe try doing a little stretching to get the blood flowing?

Nap with the kids in the afternoon?

Try a quick walk after dinner. But also, follow your body's cues.
