The website http://www.matriculationstats.org now contains some day schools located outside NYC. One DC area school is included and more will be as the page steadily expands (I have typically been updating the boarding schools page with one or two schools a day).

Although, TJ's percentage of NM semi-finalists is exceptional, don't discount St. Albans number of National Merit-Semi-finalists. From the years 2003-2009, there were 78 National Merit Semifinalists. Assuming there are 80 seniors per grade, that would make on average the number of NMSF's 11 per year which comes out to 13.75% What some of you posters are overlooking is that one of the "intangibles" STA graduates have is that they went to STA. The boys enter as boys but graduate men.

As opposed to high schools where they somehow stave off puberty?

"Any elite college preparatory school can academically prepare you for life, but few can provide the intangibles that separate successful people from those distinguished from other in excellence. The mandatory athletics, the moral teachings, and the plethora of extra-curricular activities nurture a more dynamic personality. It is evident when one sees the boys more socially adjusted, politically aware, and distinguished in their achievements compared to their peers. St. Albans offers a truly unique college preparatory experience." University of Pennsylvania Student quote listed on www.prepreview.com website.

Gee, since the OP doesn't have a kid at NCS does that mean he/she doesn't work at/for NCS? Isn't on the board of NCS?

I have a child at both STA and NCS and I like both schools. Just curious what you mean by NCS constantly falling short of STA?

RE: role of legacy, athletics in admission to Ivies, MIT and Stanford.

For NCS- role of athletics is almost a non factor. One maybe two girls per year. Seems to influence Div III

Legacy. There are many more legacy parents whose children are shut out of the alma mater than let in. That said, there were some legacy admits who got a tip because of said legacy. Nothing surprising there.

Most of the girls accepted to great schools (the top according to this thread) are smart, hardworking, accomplished and had a TALENT.
