I am a current parent of 2 kids at US Kids and there is definitely no discrimination practices against asians. This is bar far, the most diverse place I have ever seen. My DCs clas sis like a Benetton ad.
As far as the wait list, I think its really a luck type thing. If you happen to call on a day when they have a spot, you will get in. Like many of the day cares I have spoken to, they will give spots to people who call or visit often, over someone who signed up on the wait list and never spoke to them again. It also is more of an issue of the wait-list being disorganized than discriminatory. They have told friends of mine that they are unlikely to get a spot and shouldnt bother going on the wait list. They found spots for other friends right away. Its really a mix of timing and luck. If you are lucky enough to get in, its the most amazing child care center ever. The teachers are fantastic and loving, the curriculum is solid, the programming is varied, and its really an amazing place. My DD fell yesterday and both her teachers called us last night to see how she was doing bc they were worried about her. Thats not something you find just anywhere. |
Thank you to the previous posters. And yes, I am personally grieved by the situation and do not wish it on anyone.
I personally would not have wanted to go through this. But it has to be said that a wrong was done that needs to be corrected. The Board should not wash their hands of this and hide behind their policy of non-returnable application fees. It's ridiculous! It's not as if I just changed my mind and decided I don't want my child in the school! Honestly, if it takes this to make the Board clean up their act and manage their waitlist properly, so be it. Obviously they're doing something WRONG and they should FIX IT. There was a post for an Alexandria daycare where one of the paosters had the exact same thing happen to her... and they returned her application fee of $75. That daycare did the right thing. http://www.dcurbanmom.com/jforum/posts/list/94287.page (March 9, 10:13) I went to the center tour, visited the school, met the teachers, observed the diverse mix of children. My coworker may be white European, but her kids are mixed Caucasian and African. Her daughter was not with her on the tour. This whole thing may have been caused by a very poor decision made by the past director, which the Board may have never even known about! But since I have brought this to their attention and made them aware, IT IS MY FAIR RIGHT that the Board remedy the situation. To the parents who have been on the WL for time immemorial: there are 3 other children in my coworker's 3-year-old class who are leaving or have left the center (aside from my coworker's child). Other children from the other classes may have left as well. Please make sure to keep calling and see if you can get your child out of their disorganized waitlist and into the school, which is good as past posters have stated (and whose teachers, mind you, I have said nothing negative about because I have nothing bad to say!), albeit with extremely poor management. May you have better timing and luck than I did, and may you not experience what I went through. |
How was this resolved? |
I hear the new director was previously fired from another daycare for slapping a child! Is this true?! |
Bump |
Don't know how she got hired again! She was awful. |
I've heard nothing but great things about the directors. Knowing the intense background checks, if anything popped up. I'm more than certain that that would be handled before hiring. |
Are you referring to the director or the assistant director? They are both new, with the assistant director being hired more recently. I agree with the PP that they would likely go through an intense vetting process.
Also, I'm not sure what the point of the post is. Are you saying that US Kids is not a good center? Our child is there and we and every other parent we've interacted with have been very happy with the care our children receive. |
The director.
I have no idea what kind of daycare it is; was just alerted to the fact that she was hired after getting kicked out of my daughter's daycare. If she was fired but charges were not pressed and it was magically taken off her resume..well then, totally feasible. |
