We are moving to the North Ridge area of Alexandria and were wondering if there are any daycares or preschools to consider. We need full day care for our 3.5 year old in the fall and were hoping to get him into a preschool but I understand many deadlines have passed. Anyone have any suggestions? Also open to daycare options that do preschool. |
St. Clements on Quaker Ln if they are still accepting applications |
Unfortunately they are full. We will do the waitlist there though. It is very close to our new house. |
We love love love saint Anthony’s in Old Town. They have a 3 year waiting list for infants but you can get your 3.5 year old no problem. It’s fully day all year. |
Westminster and Trinity have some openings. |
Agudas Achim
It’s on Valley/Allison (Kenwood) |
Creative Play School. There is one on Del Ray and one near Alexandria Hospital- about ten mins from Northridge.

Butterfly House at the Virginia Theological Society. Hands down the largest and best playground of any local preschool. The playground and food were my biggest concerns when looking for a daycare and I these areas have been great. |
Children’s International School at Duke and Quaker intersection. |
Ditto. So happy here. And I don't think the wait list is as long as it once was. |
Piggybacking on this thread to get more details on Butterfly House- worth the tuition? I've been on a waitlist for St. Anthony's and have little hope of an opening there anytime soon. |
Yes I think it is worth it. Currently have two kids enrolled. During Covid we lost our spot and moved our kids to another local daycare that was much cheaper, but we did not like it. Our spots opened back up at BH and we have been so happy, even with the added cost. Our kids get a lot of outdoor playtime which is important to us. They have the best playground in Alexandria and also access to walk the entire VTS campus which is beautiful. There is a small family feel where all the teachers know all the students names. The teachers put together amazing activities and the director is wonderful. |
Oh one other amazing thing about Butterfly House - not only were we not asked to pay during Covid closure (while they continued to pay staff) they reimbursed our tuition for dates not used in March of 2020. |
Thanks so much for this feedback. It's crazy that daycare reviews are so tough to come by unless you get them by word of mouth. I like the campus feel and outside play emphasis for sure. |
My family is also moving to the North Ridge area over Labor Day weekend. I have a 5-month-old son and I am looking for full-time daycare recommendations as well. We currently have him at an in-home daycare in Bethesda and would be open to that in Alexandria as well, but only with strong referrals...thoughts or suggestions? |
