Norwood is a gem. But it is not the only school. I really liked Woods a lot. Beautiful site.

What are the "alternative schools" in DC? Sheridan, CHDS, St. Patricks, Holy Trinity, Lowell, any others?

Capitol Hill Day School. Unless you live on the hill, would suggest you look elsewhere.

Where does Norwood feed?

All over, including public. Holton, Landon, St. Andrews, Sidwell, STA, Georgetown Prep.

Grace Episcopal Day School in SS and Kensington. And they are expanding this year to 7th, and then to 8th next year.

Washington International School is by far superior to all the so-called "alternative schools" you mention in DC.

By what definition? As this thread illustrates, there are many highly regarded private schools in the area outside the big name schools. And as each family has different needs/requirements/parameters/desires, you must look at the individual school to determine if it is a good fit for your family. I think it is useful to ask for suggestions for names of schools, but I don't think it is helpful to declare one as definitively "superior". Superior for your family perhaps, but not necessarily for another family.
