not pumping well after several days away from the pump--how is this going to play out?

Anonymous
I had a little over a week off and enjoyed nursing the whole time (no pumping at all). I'm back at work this morning and really having a hard time getting my milk to let down! Is this to be expected after so many days away from the pump? If you've experienced this I'd love to know how long it lasted and any tips you've got for getting back into the groove. I guess I'm looking for some reassurance--hoping that might help me relax... Thanks!

First, try to relax. Your milk supply is probably up from a week of nursing. So, take a deep breath, look at photos of your child, imagine him/her nursing. And try again in 20 minutes. Drink more water. Also, follow the tips in this video: http://newborns.stanford.edu/Breastfeeding/MaxProduction.html

It will come back. I promise. It's just your body not used to the pump after the break.

Agree with PP - it WILL come back, but less so if you're stressed. Give yourself a couple of days to get back into the routine, and just relax. You'll be back to the ol' grind before you know it.
