I'm getting very frustrated about shoes!!! Am I the only one who can't wear high heels and other cute shoes? I've spent money on high end heels - that hasn't helped. I've bought gel insoles and that hasn't helped either. I get blisters, my toes get cut off, etc...I'm just getting so annoyed! I see all these women trotting around in heels and I can barely wear flats without injuries to my feet. I am very sensitive to fabrics and don't enjoy wearng things on my feet in general (slides and flip flops are my favorite things), but I need and want to be able to wear this stuff! |
Those women that are comfortable in heels wear them every day. I can't wear them either, too painful. But it is bad if you just do it occasionally. |
I used to wear heels but gave them up many years ago because I they started to give me terrible cramps in my feet, so bad that I had to get cortisone injections. This was a sign to me that high heels are unhealthy for me. There are lots of gorgeous flats available year round, so I would suggest accepting that heels are not for you and learn to enjoy flats. When I see women in high heels, I wince, remembering my own pain, while admiring how beautiful the shoes are. |
I am also high-heel averse, but I think Cole Haan's Nike Air shoes (and they do have high heel models) are more comfortable than most. I'm also curious if anyone has tried Taryn Rose. They're advertised as being good for your feet but so expensive I've never bought them. |
I find that the style of the shoe and the height of the heel are what affect my comfort the most. I personally can't really wear more than 1.5 inch heel and sometimes that's hard to find. Discount shoes I generally can't do, either.
My most confortable pair of heels right now are Aerosoles. No they are not Jimmy Choos, but they don't look like Granny orthopedics, either. One thing I suggest is to go to a good shoe-fitting place (maybe Nordstroms) and get sized? Maybe you are extra narrow or wide or something. Also maybe they have advice for styles that might fit you better. Lastly, Zappos has a good return policy, have you ever tried them? |
Similar boat -- after years and years of vanity, I've concluded I can only do squared heels under 2" and I also need a high vamp. I've also given up entirely on any garment that requires strapless or otherwise complicated undergarments. Much happier now that I've just accepted these limitations, and I still feel sexy, can do cleavage, open toes, whatev, I just go with what I know will work and don't agonize over the cute or trendy stuff that my body just isn't going to tolerate. Pushing 40 and finally figured out uncomfortable is never sexy! |
You're not alone... I so desperately wish I could wear high heels all the time... but of course my feet complain when I walk even just one block. Why do we have to engage in this self torture?? Because my legs are chunky. Heels make them look leaner.
I have heard a theory that I have yet to try... which is that high end designer heels tend to hurt less than lower end heels. Something about lighter materials and better fabrics.... I don't know, but I wish it were so. |
clogs are my only high hell, I mean heel. Croc's are my next favorite shoe, the tennis shoes for the gym. My feet can not take high heels, not to mention I would bust my butt. Never could walk in those things. I looked clumsy. |
I don't wear fancy shoes myself--am completely addicted to earth shoes--but I hear Taryn Rose is a good brand for people with foot issues (arches, etc.) who otherwise can't wear nice heeled shoes. It's pricey, but designed by a podiatrist, and you can get good bargains sometimes from sierratradingpost.com. |
I have a very large shoe collection not to mention expensive. I swear no matter who makes them they still hurt. I've figured out there is no sense in wearing heels 2.5+inches to chase twins around. Now, I have found a great pair of Franco Sarto 2inch boot which I love and actually are comfie. Other than that those are my only heels I'll wear now. I can't wait though for new sandals, flip flops which seem to be quite colorful and don't look so painful for spring/summer.
I would wear the great looking flats now and don't think twice about the heels. Comfie and cute are a great pair! |
I can wear heals for an evening out. I can and don't wear them every day. Better shoes do feel way better.
Look closely at the women coming out of the metro - at least half of the ones I see who claim they can walk in heels are lumbering down the street with a stilted gait and bad posture. IMO, not attractive at all!!! [Yeah, there are some who look fine, but many not.] Amen to the PP "uncomfortable isn't sexy." |
I got the cutest pair of Simply Vera, Vera Wang, shoes from Kohl's. They are Mary Jane like heals, and have a square heal. I did make the mistake of breaking them in at a wake, and thought for sure Vera Wang either hated feet, or those who purchased her cheaper line. I can actually wear them all day now, as long as I am not on my feet for eight hours at a time.
There is no way I can wear a spiked heal, it has to be squared, and thicker. It seems that's what makes all the difference, the thickness of the heal, as people need more surface area to rest their weight on, than something the side of a pen head. |
