Sibling Preference at NPS and St. Patrick's

Anonymous
It would be helpful to know if siblings are guaranteed admission at these schools. Anyone's sibling not get in?

I think the language is "preferred". However (in thinking about younger siblings), maybe some current parents know from experience whether this language actually means the sibling would pretty much be admitted.

We just got our acceptance letter yesterday for nursery at St. Patrick's. Our children are a year and a half apart so we would apply our second next fall.

From what I understand, there is preference for siblings. However, they did tell us at our tour and then on the visiting day that in an effort to bring new families to the school they may "defer" current families for a year. I think this policy makes really good sense. Maybe this is what allowed us to get a spot for next year.

To be totally honest, I wouldn't be upset if they "deferred" our second child as the tuition is already a stretch for us and we could use the extra year of regular preschool tuition.

22:23 Poster Back- My last comment about tution now sounds selfish to me and I didn't mean it to be. If it meant that a family applying without sibling preference could get a spot then that, too, would be a really good thing. Like I said before, maybe that's what opened up a spot for us. (Of course if we were "deferred" year after year I would probably get frusrated at some point.)

We have 2 kids at St. Patricks and know of several families whose younger siblings were not accepted.

Sounds like it's not automatic, which is good information to have in deciding where to send the oldest child. Thanks for your post.

St Patrick's tries to accept sibs but its not always possible. Sometimes the child is not ready for school or is not a good fit. I would say its safe to say most sibd get in but there is no guarantee. Pretty much the same as most schools although I have heard that St Pats and Beauvoir have the best record on trying to accept sibs when hey first apply.

NPS has a preference for siblings but admission is never guaranteed. Nor should it be, for the wellbeing of the child. There may well be instances where a younger sibling is in need of a different environment and nurture than a school attended by the elder sibling can provide.
