Im looking to buy some lab created diamonds, a ring, specifically. Can anyone recommend their company/brand? TIA~ |
You mean, cubic zirconia? Try Walmart. |
NP here. FYI-lab created diamonds are not cubic zirconia. |
You know you can turn your deceased family member into a diamond, don't you? I wonder if supplying the "organic material" reduces the cost. |
CZ is man-made, but it is created from a mineral that is naturally found. Therefore, the CZ chemical structure is different from diamonds, but looks like a diamond. Strength and brilliance are different from diamonds.
Lab-created diamonds are...made in a lab. Their chemical structure is identical to mined-diamonds, so strength and brilliance are the same. However, you can tell the difference because mined-diamonds have natural flaws which add color (but also change quality). Lab diamonds are "perfect" but can have "flaws" added to them in order to give a little color if wanted. |
13:02-Nice try. |
If you want to be snarky, you should really be on top of things. Lab created gem quality diamonds are a real industry. They aren't perfect, but they have the benefit that you can be sure they are not conflict/blood diamonds. |

Moissanite.
http://www.moissanite.com/moissanite_the_jewel.cfm There are many retailers around here including Kohl's. |
Agreed. I just like the way they sparkle. In my opinion, I don't see a huge difference between cubic zirconia and diamond, except the price. ![]() |
I think that's a matter of personal preference, but those who do want real diamonds can get lab created ones, which are different from both Moissanite and Cubic Zirconia. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Synthetic_diamond#Gemstones |
It is my understanding that moissanite has to be marked because they test the same as diamond. Mossanite is much different than CZ. Anyone can purchase CZ in the rough for just $.04 a carat. Most Lapidary artists will charge at least a hundred dollars to cut the stone. These will show better color and brilliance than the CZ purchased in large retail stores. Not everyone can purchase moissanite and the cost per carat of a cut piece is about $500. Moissanite is cut the same as diamond though the girdle (sides) of moissanite is polished while diamonds aren't. CZ is an 8 on the Mohs scale of hardness. Rubies/Sapphires are a 9 and Diamonds are a 10. Moissanite is higher than a 9 but below 10. There is the differences in refractive indexes as well. |
Wow, 13:57, do you work in the industry? |
I am a lapidary artist, aka, gem cutter. |
What an interesting job. Where do you train for that? |
