| Do you have one? I'd like to make a cake for my grandmother's birthday but have a new baby, so something on the simpler side would be preferable. Any tips would be welcome too. Thanks!! |
| I'd just skip the fondant and go with buttercream. Fondant looks nice, but truthfully, not very many people like to eat it. |
| look up marshmallow fondant. it's extremely easy to make. using it is still a pain in the butt. agree with pp. but if looks are more important than taste, then go ahead with fondant. |
| Go to Wilton.com -- look for discussion forums -- they have a discussion forum specifically for recipes. You can find a fondant recipe there -- people often abreviate it -- MMF. I've made chocolate fondant before and while it work okay for small pieces, it did not have the proper consistency for covering an entire cake. Last time I covered a cake in fondant, I went to Michael's and bought premade fondant and then colored it. |

MM (Marshmallow) Fondant Recipe
Marshmallow Fondant ingredients 16 ounces white mini-marshmallows (use a good quality brand) 2 to 5 tablespoons water 2 pounds icing sugar (please use C&H Cane Powdered Sugar for the best results) 1/2 cup Crisco shortening (you will be digging into it so place in a very easily accessed bowl) |
| i've covered cakes in MMF without a problem. it's just a pain to work with is all. |
| OP, I would not be messing with fondant with a new baby in the house. Do you have an hour to fuss with it? Personally, I would make some sort of a bundt cake with a drizzled icing. |
