Silver Spring OB/GYN Recommendation

Anonymous
Does anyone have recommendations for an OB/GYN (preferably female) in the Silver Spring/Bethesda/Takoma Park area? I am currently a patient at Capital Women's Care on K Street in DC and had my first baby in November. While my medical care was great I just can't handle the incompetence of their administrative staff, I would like to avoid any other CWC practices unless anyone has had positive experiences they can share.

TIA!

I actually do very strongly recommend the CWC practice on Lockwood Drive in Silver Spring (near Four Corners). There are actually two CWC groups in the same building-- the one I went to was the group with Drs. Berger-Weiss, Levitt, Travers, Sommerville, and Seidel. There have been a few discussions about them on this website in the past few weeks, so you can probably read other opinions if you search under Berger-Weiss (the poster was asking about her specifically). Anyway, I've been seeing this group of doctors for years, they delivered both of my children, and I couldn't be more pleased with them. In ten years of going there, I haven't had any of the administrative type of nightmares you described in the DC practice. I should also note that some of the doctors in that group are forever appearing in the Washingtonian's best doctors of DC list, so I don't think the positive experience with them is limited to me. The phone number there (forever etched in my mind) is 301-681-3400. Good luck.

I second the Travers, Berger-Weiss, et al practice. We went once to the CWC yahoos at 2142 K St and went running for the hills. We switched to the Lockwood group and you wouldn't know that the two are in any way related.

I recommend the CWC group on Georgia Ave. just north of the Beltway. Drs. Laurie Tyau, Heather Sine or Darryn Band are all great. (I just haven't met the newish doc--Resta--he is probably fine too. In fact, he was the one on call when my water broke, and over the phone, he was very reassuring. The front desk staff are very nice and competent.

I go to OBGYN and Associates located next to Holy Cross Hospital. They have at least three female doctors in the practice. Dr. Morales delivered two of my nephews and is great. I go to Dr. Ronald Jacobs who is awesome! He is laid back, but very informative. All the women in my family go to see him.

I have been happy with the administrative staff of CWC on Lockwood. I feel the doctors rush me a little too much, but I suppose that happens everywhere....or does it?

No, not all doctors rush you. Try Ron Jacobs of OBGYN Associates in the Holy Cross Hospital medical bldg. He's fabulous.

I recommend CWC on Lockwood. This is my third pregnancy--I miscarried twice before. I haven't seen all the doctors, but they have been helpful and understanding of my anxiety. Dr. Berger-Weiss has given me the option to go in for extra sonos for peace of mind.

I can fully appreciate your annoyance at a practice with rude or incompetent admin staff. I see a number of specialists and experience a wide variety of behavior in different practices. Best wishes.

Which ones of these are most supportive of alternative medicine/midwives/natural birth?

Just an FYI, based on your reasoning for leaving your current practice, I was a patient with OBGYN and Associates that several people recommended. As you said in your original post, I was very pleased with the care of the doctors, but the admin staff was horrible. I've heard through the grapevine that things have improved since they've moved into their new office. Maybe current patients can comment on that.

I have to weigh in that OBGYN associates are wonderful! I go to Dr. Novac who I just adore, but Dr. Jacobs (male) was the one who delivered my little girl just two weeks ago and I had the best experience. I would highly recommend the practice!
