Dh has been doing an extreme form of intermittent fasting for about 6 weeks. He has been losing weight but also seems to be pushing himself too hard and is frequently tired, lightheaded and hungry, all of which he complains about to me but he refuses to eat and says he “knows what he is doing”. I haven’t read the books he has read on this but does anyone with experience with this want to weigh in on how best ito support him? I’m worried he’s going to do too much. He’s working out and not eating for 24 hours, 5 days in a row, every 4 weeks. |
If not already, he needs to cut down carbs to less than 25g a day.
If fasting that hard, he needs to stick with it. 1 week fast every 4 weeks will keep his body in turmoil, it usually takes 1-2 weeks for your body to transition, you will get those symptoms. Or... move to more frequent, reduced fasting, like 16/8. Add magnesium and potassium supplements, it will reduce or eliminate dizziness and fatigue. To satiate hunger, he needs to increase fat. Use olive oil, fatty cuts of meat, avocados, etc. |
Research suggests metabolism drops after ,2-3 days fasting. Modt intermittent fasting results support every other day, not 5 days straight..I would insist he is being followed by his doctor

Fasting really helps the body. My opinion is that as long as he keeps a high intake of Protein, Vegetables and Fruit - He will be ok. |
What? This isn't intermittent fasting. This is starving for five days/120 hours. |
+1 Agree. Either we're misreading this or PPs above are. Rather than eating two days a week, I would suggest calorie restriction for 3-5 days a week, with lots of protein. Or really, any sort of diet that involves eating rather than starvation. That's unsustainable, obviously, and veering really far into disordered eating territory. |
