We are looking to relocate from DTSS. Anyone who can comment on the teachers, community, culture of the school? I'd be grateful!
Former MCPS teacher, I loved that school. The school also has a gifted & talented center there. The neighborhood is very nice and near the inter county connector for easy commuting. The parents are pretty friendly as well. I think you’ll like the school.
The families I know are happy there.
I live in stonegate. The neighborhood is very welcoming. Everyone loves the school. Just about everyone belongs to the pool.
Hey, OP here and we're still looking. One question that we would love to get a sense of--would a bookish, math-focused, not sporty and super motivated learner find peers? He has a hard time socially, so, finding supportive schools with academically-focused peers is really important to us
Is DTSS downtown Silver Spring? If so, the answer is yes, Stonegate would be a better fit for a bookish math focused student than a number of DTSS ES. Visit the school, and specifically ask to visit as many of the potential different teachers as possible during instruction time. Feel free to be as pleasantly insistent on getting your child put in the class you and your child feel is the best fit.
Uh, no, you shouldn't do that. Parents don't get to choose teachers. And you're not going to get to have a trial run in each potential class either. If you're starting mid-year, you'll be placed in whichever class has space available. |
OP here--not looking for a mid-year switch. We'll be moving this summer if we go. Not sure if that changes the note from the pp about advocating for a specific class. My guess is that we get what we get from a class placement perspective
Is this named after the Stonegate that's the penitentiary in DC superhero comics?
Yeah, I'm sure that's exactly it. Not the Stonegate neighborhood its located in. Good catch. |
