Silver Spring Suggestions

Anonymous
Hi. My very active son is in an in-home right now. But when he turns two next spring, I would like to go somewhere with more structure and stimulation. Can anyone suggest a great daycare center and/or full-day preschool in the Silver Spring or Chevy Chase area? I live in Forest Glen but work in Friendship Heights.
Thanks!

I encourage you to check-out Easter Seals Child Development Center in downtown Silver Spring (across from Woodside Park). It's been open for just a year, and is extremely well-funded by the national Easter Seals organization, which means that the facilities are fantastic and the director and teachers can focus solely on delivering quality childcare and education. My kids attend and we couldn't be happier with our decision to enroll them. It's an inclusion and intergenerational program, about which I knew very little until I toured Easter Seals. I'm thrilled to have stumbled upon such a special place.

We loved Kensington-Forest Glen Childcare Center. It is on Dameron Drive, and is NAEYC-accredited.

We also loved (for our other child) Acorn Hill Waldorf Nursery & Kindergarten, but although they offer full-day care, their hours aren't ideal for a WOH parent.

I would second the recommendation for Easter Seals. My DD is in the 2-year-old room and we are very happy with the center.

Easter Seals is open from 7-6. The fees are $1400/mo for the 2-year-old room and I think it goes down to about $1300 for 3 and up.

The Easter Seals price does not include meals. FYI.

Our son just started attending Spring Bilingual which is on Plyers Mill Road. He enjoys going and has been sounding out words and counting in spanish so we know he is absorbing a lot there. The cost is about $10,000 for the year for full time.

I live in Silver Spring, but work in Bethesda, so similar area/commut. I'm wondering what in home care you have right now. I'm due in Feb and will be looking for an in home day care option for the baby.

Yes, any home based care suggestions would be appreciated. I am in the Forest Glen area. For the last month I thought I had care for mid-Jan and then Monday got a call from the provider that she is raising her rate $75/week to $350/week. I have been seeing closer to $250/week and $350 is too high for me. Back to the drawing board....
