We are delighted to announce District Irish Dance Academy - the first fully-accredited Irish dance academy based in Northwest Washington DC - opens this September and is currently enrolling new students. Classes are led by professional dancer Joe Duffey, TCRG, who has toured alongside Michael Flatley in "Lord of the Dance" on Broadway and with Grammy Award-winning show "Riverdance"!
We offer opportunities for young students age 5 & up (our "Little Shamrocks" class) as well as a unique Irish social dance class for adults. Our mission is to provide world-class Irish dance education for students of all backgrounds in a fun, supportive, inclusive environment. District Academy classes will be held at FUSE PILATES in Foxhall Square - one of the leading Pilates studios in DC - conveniently located new Tenleytown/AU with metro accessibility and ample parking. To celebarete our opening, please join us for our first OPEN HOUSE - Aug 25th from 12-1:30pm at Fuse Pilates - for a FREE intro dance class and to learn more! We hope to see you there! | Hi, i think your post was moved, please can you advise whether there is a limited number of spaces for your open house?? Thanks |
|
Hi there! Thanks for your interest in District Irish Dance Academy! There will be limited space for the open house so we suggest that you register beforehand at this link under "single classes / open house": https://classbug.com/businesses/1730/offerings - if you have any trouble, just send us an email info@districtirishdance.com
Thanks! |
| What is your highest level? Would you accept transfers? Are the Pilates classes opened to dancers from other schools? |
|
Hi there! Thanks for your message. We will be offering a range of levels, from beginner to champ and will accept transfers on a case-by-case basis. Yes, Pilates classes are fully separate from the Academy and are open to the general public and dancers from other schools (we also offer a seasonal Pilates for Dancers series offered through the Fuse Pilates website). Please feel free to send an email to info@districtirishdance.com
Thank you! |
| What is your injury rate? |
| Hi - Can potential transfer students attend the open house without commitment? Or will attending the open house be viewed by CLRG rules as attending another school? Thanks |
| Injury rates in Irish dance are comparable to other sport/dance activities. Proper cross-training/conditioning, which we emphasize at DIDA, can help to reduce the risk of injury. |
|
Hi there - the open house on Aug 25th is fully open to the public, so we welcome everyone to check out the Fuse Pilates Foxhall space (which is one of the District Academy studios), meet instructors and learn more about what is offered. It entirely depends on the CLRG teacher/school whether they would consider attending it to be of conflict. If you have any more specific questions, please send an email to info@districtirishdance.com
Thanks! |
| Irish dance is known to have higher risk than other forms of dance. What is your rate? Typical is Something like 31% for rec level and 67% for competitive irish dancers. |
Dance parent here and Where did you get these stats??? And why do you keep asking about the injury rate? Dancing occurs on flat surfaces. There are no acrobatics involved. There are no props involved. Like any sport, I would guess that injury from repetitive movements can and does occur and depends on the individual. My DD is a rec dancer for the past 4 years (competes on and off throughout the year) and I have yet to see a dancer injured in a rec level class. |
Ok, thanks for the reply. Sorry one more question - are you in the Southern region or Mid Atlantic region? |
| We are based in the Southern Region - thanks! |
| This sounds great! What is the youngest age a student can start Irish dance? |
|
