Any impressions? My son would be going into nursery but I am thinking about the longer term. My impression (not having visited WES yet) is that it is more structured and traditional whereas St. Pats might be more flexible/progressive. |
Bump ! |
I can tell you that St. Patrick's is much more competitive. |

We thought the AD at WES was much nicer and professional. The Associate Director (not the Director) we dealt with at St. Patrick's was neither.

I think if you search the archives you will find much praise for St Patrick's and for Peter Barrett in particular. |
These were our top 2 choices. Despite the shared history and the split of one school from the other, I really don't think there is much difference in quality.
Unless you count the facilities. St. Pat's is prettier. WES has more in the way of science labs, art studios, athletic facilities. They both struck us warmer and more nurturing places than GDS or Beauvoir. (We didn't apply to Sidwell). |
St. Patricks is harder to get into, and definitely has a connection in terms of outplacement to St. Albans (because the headmaster, Peter Barrett came from STA). |
Ah, the favorite refrains of this board -- harder to get in to...more competitive admissions = must be better.
|
Check the last WES thread. They have those very same connections to the Cathdral schools. I don't think there's much difference between the two schools in terms of the education your child will get and the outplacement.
St. Pat's is working on expansion through high school, so presumably fewer students will be outplaced eventually. |
WES is top notch, much more competitive than St. Pats and much larger and nicer facilities also more diverse. The head is well respected in the area, came from NCS, outplacement is in line with all the top tier schools, traditional yet flexible teaching and hands on approach. A real gem if you can get in! |
Can you cite any numbers? |
LOL! Its easy to get in to WES. I know people who did not even apply their children during the regular season and still got in. Its does not come close to the quality or competitiveness of St. Patrick's. Not from any standpoint. |
I guess it goes to show everyone has their own take on things. I know people who were waitlisted at WES and got into St. Pats. Go figure! |
Both Stu Work at WES at Peter Barrett at St. Patrick's are wonderful heads whom I've had the pleasure of working with. Stu has been tireless in working with fellow elementary school heads, and Peter served as a great mentor for me a few years back.
