Daycare options within the next 1-2 months

Anonymous
Hi all - can anyone help me figure out what (if any) options we have to find a daycare for our 1.5 year old, preferably in downtown DC, with a start date within the next 1-2 months? Our current share situation isn't working. At all. I won't go into details here, but all parties are close to the point of calling it quits and we need to line something else up in the immediate - short term, and we really don't want to go through the process of creating another share.

I know how long typical waitlists are. I realize there are probably zero options for us within this timeframe. We are not interested in an in-home center either.

Any leads would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

You'd be surprised in August when all the three year olds go to DCPS, there's often a backflow of space. We got into BH East End in August that way a couple of years ago. Maybe First Baptist in Dupont or one of the new Kindercares that opened downtown?

Great point about backflow in August - hadn't even considered that. Thank you for these suggestions, will definitely look into them. Funny you mention First Baptist as well, I was just on their website this morning after meeting a group of parents whose toddlers go there.

OP, I highly recommend this arrangement for your little one. My daughter went there and our family loved our experience there.

Do you happen to know if they currently have openings in the 2 year old room? Also, what is the tuition?

If you call a bunch of places, you will find openings. Some of the more expensive bright horizons seem to have openings all the time, plus other places have random openings from time to time and seem to use a “bird in the hand” approach to giving out spots in that they will give the spot to a motivated caller even if they have a wait list. So call!

What’s the matter with you? She just said there is opening for a two year old and you are asking her the same question. Call the place yourself.

Check the reply date: 10/3/18. Lots can change in 5 months.

Well, why and how is your kid being punished?

Also, don’t rely on the 800 number (or whatever the central number is for Bright Horizons). Call each location directly. The central number often says no openings but then the location itself has a spot.
