I need to take my 1-yr-old daughter for both oral/speech therapy and physical therapy. She was born prematurely and have been told by GUH that she needs to work on both her gross and fine motor skills. Unfortunately there is a 4.5 month wait-list at Georgetown, so I have to find somewhere else that offers both. Can anyone recommend a clinic or private therapist qualified and experienced in working with children? Many thanks. |
Keep calling GUH - maybe once a week to see what movement there is.
You can call Children's hospital as well and get on their wait list. For both I have found that squeaky wheel (but not too squeaky) helped get an appt. I also found that Children's Hospital in Rockville had no wait list - but in DC is was almost impossible to get in for appts. I was going 2 times a week for PT and 1 day we would go to DC and 1 day to Rockville / Gaithersburg. I live in NW DC and heading up to the MD site was really easy. |
If you are willing to head up to Rockville, I highly recommend Early Intervention Associates. I got the rec from this board for Susan Abrams and we see Cara. They are very good and have been so much better than the county ( we are also doing MoCo services). |
Unfortunately, these waitlists aren't uncommon. Have you tried calling your local government's early intervention services? Our son recieved a year of PT through them and ST. |
