Middle School SSAT Admitted Scores?

Anonymous
Anyone accepted for for middle school with SSAT percentiles all in the 70s (79, 74, 70), but with much higher percentiles on in-school standardized testing? Wondering if we should even be hoping or just waiting for rejection? We only took the Jan test. Rookie mistake. Grades are good and lots of good extra-curricular activities. First choice is Holton.

The scores are fine for Holton. I hope you sent them a first choice letter. That helps.
Good luck!

I don't know, from what I've heard those scores are low. But, I understand that Holton does look at the whole child and how she will fit in the school.

Ugh - mixed review already. But, I did send a first choice letter. Thanks!

If she doesn't get in (and I would not worry about those scores) it means there was not a space for her. Don't call it a rejection because it's a numbers game. Good luck to your DD! And seriously, don't sweat the scores. Niece got in with lower scores than that.

Those scores are not bad. Do not listen to DCUM. First choice letter is a good idea though as schools like Holton want one. They have so many applicants that it is a good way to stand out.

Thanks, all, for the feedback.

OMG - this scores are more than good enough for Holton. Truly. Dont worry. Holton parents can be utterly ridiculous.

Holton (and all schools whose admission processes are competitive) will reject some students with higher scores than your daughter's, and will accept some students with lower scores. The process is holistic. As long as scores are within the range for admitted students, standardized testing plays a much smaller role than most parents assume it does.

To answer your question directly: Higher is always better, but those scores on their own will not disqualify your daughter at any school in the DC area.

Good luck!
Peter

Peter,

How are you the expert? You have no clue!
Those scores are actually every good. There is no majic formula. I know kids who’ve gotten into HA and other competitive schools with MUCH lower.

Um, I think that’s what he just said.

He probably knows how to spell magic, for starters.

Those scores would be borderline for one of the very top privates like Sidwell or NCS but should be great for Holton. Dont worry!!
