Georgetown or GW?

I am 4 mos pregnant and just moved to DC. I can choose to deliver at Georgetown or GW. Which hospital is better?

they are actually quite similar, both are large, urban teaching hospitals, more on the clinical side, both have good NICU's in case baby needs it, so you cant go wrong. i delivered #1 at georgetown and had very good experience, and my son was in the NICU x5 days and it was as good as NICU can be, im about to deliver #2 again at georgetown and feel confident that they can handle all medical issues, and it will be a good, safe birth..on the negative side, GUH parking is a pain in the ass for appointments, and i cant rave about the OB's per se, but the medical care is top notch if that s important for you...best of luck, i think you should tour them both and get a vibe, GW has newer facilities i think, but you dont want to get stuck in rush hour by GW or a presidential motorcade if you have to drive far to get to GW!!!

I loved the staff at GW - my first pregnancy ended in a terrible fashion - won't go into the details but after bed rest and other interventions, I lost baby at 21 weeks. I cannot say rnough good things about the staff through all that, not too mention the complications / readmissions I had after that event. About a year later I was back - in hospital twice prior to delivery and then delivery. Many of the same staff were there and our celebration was shared with all the staff. CAn;t say enough good things about their L&D and post-partum nursing care.

Thank you so much for the good information.

There have been numerous threads on here about delivering at both GW and GUH, and you may want to check out the "old" site as well.

You can't go wrong with either.

I delivered at Georgetown last summer - liked the hospital and the facilities. My baby ended up in the NICU for a few nights, and we were very impressed with the quality of care there and the staff were outstanding.

Good luck and congratulations on your pregnancy. And welcome to DC too!

I delivered at GW and I had a wonderful experience. The nurse I had when I checked in was with me the whole way through and in fact when her shift ended I was getting ready to deliver so she stayed to help me through the delivery! She was wonderful! Also the food was excellent! And boy was I hungry after I delivered!

Thank you again for the feedback. Are the rooms at GW private?

Yes, all the rooms at GW are private. I would recommend you on the hospital tour (free).
