ANy good books to read to a 5 YO about fears?

My 5 yo DS has anxiety at night. Scared of "monsters" "bad guys" "noises" "dying". It breaks my heart. We explain there are no monsters and have done the monster spray gig for extra protection. We explained bad guys will stay away because we have an alarm and a dog. we talked about all the things that could make noises in our house. And, talked about dying in all the age appropriate ways books have said to discuss dying with children. No one close to him has died but his GG is 97 and a Gpa who is 86. He knows they are old and worries about them dying.

Any picture books that are good to read to him about any of these fears? Tonight I had him repeat, "I am safe" "My mom and Dad protect me" "I am loved" before bedtime. Seemed to help calm his fears as he was worked up a lot tonight. Usually when he is over tied he is more anxious.

You seem to be trying very good strategies! Sometimes toddlers and young children outgrow these fears, too. Here is an article http://bit.ly/2hq5WEp which gives some good references for addressing young children's fears. Hope this helps!

I found that all the books I tried just gave my anxious four year old more things to worry about - they gave him the idea to fear shadows, for example, when before he feared only pitch-black.

Wish I had better ideas!

I think the Berenstain books are good for this.

It teaches CBT techniques that are age-appropriate for elementary age children. I think we started it when my DS was 6yo.
