Expectant and Postpartum Moms
Is it worth the cost difference to get a hands free breast pump if you're planning on continuing to breast feed once you return to work? (I'll be working 4 days/week, sometimes long days). I have a private office at work, so can pump there and am thinking the hands free may allow me to work while pumping rather than needing to take a break each time. Is it easy to work on a computer, read, etc. with the hands free? Thanks!
I just use the hands-free bra with my PIS - cheaper than the hands free pump: http://www.easyexpressionproducts.com/
What's even cheaper than buying the hands free bra, is cutting small holes in an old sports bra. I did that and have been pumping hands free for months.
The only pump I had was the Medela Freestyle, so I can't compare it to a non-hands free option, but I loved loved loved it! I could comfortably ready, use the computer, etc. while pumping. I used it for 5 months at work and it was totally worth it to me.
I was able just to tuck the cones into my nursing bra and pumped like that for over a year without a problem.
I only used a non-hands free style pump but I did use the easy expression hands free pumping bra. It REALLY allowed me to move around. I didn't have to be tentative to not nick the flanges and spill my milk...which made me relaxed more. It was 100% worth it to me to spend the $34.00 and was one of my best purchases! It works with all breast feeding pumps and over any nursing bra. you can see more about them on their web site. www.easyexpression.com if you are still interested.
I'm up at 2 AM pumping and I have to whole heartedly agree with this poster. Best $ I ever spent! |
Ditto on the Easy Expressions bra...it's FANTASTIC, and probably the only reason I'm still nursing and working full time. Be sure to buy it to fit tightly, though, or else pumping isn't as effective.
Is there such a thing as a hands free pump? I've never heard of that. I too just tucked the cones into my nursing bra.
I rented a lactina with #1 and was looking to buy a pump for #2. My lactation consultant said that while the Freestyle was a great pump, she really couldn't tell me that it was better than the Pump in Style with the easy expressions harness given the cost difference. Unless you really have the need to move around while you pump, the PIS should do you fine. (There was a review of it in the Wash Post about a year ago and the gal was pumping while making dinner, as I recall!) That said, if you don't anticipate having easy access to an outlet to plug in your PIS, maybe the freestyle would be better for you.
