Sex and alcohol

Anonymous
My DH doesn't have a drinking problem but it seems as though as he's gotten older even a moderate amount of alcohol can affect his ability to achieve an orgasm. He has no problem getting an erection but if he's had a couple glasses of wine he often.........fails to deliver. He's 60 and we still have a very active sex life so I'm wondering if this is normal as you get older. Thankfully he prefers sex over alcohol but I know he'd enjoy both in the same evening. Is this just part of the aging process or should he switch from wine to something else?

We just usually don't have sex when we're drunk. I'm not against it by any means but it just takes forever and I'm usually really ready to pass out anyway. We wait for the morning!

Everyone gets whiskey dick. Its a fact of life. DH is 40 and it kills me when he drinks. I'm sore for a few days because it can go on for a very long time. It happens or doesn't (pun intended).

OP here - he's definitely not drunk and I usually only have half a glass of wine plus ice and club soda. Not much of a party girl! The morning option is something for us to think about!

Too funny. Some wish for the opposite.

OP here - LOL you make a good point! And he does it unaided!

I am 43 and drinking and sex don't go together. Kudos for him at 60!

My dh is 36 and it takes a long while when he's drunk or on round 2. We just have a limit where both of us call it a night. The sex itself is fun and enjoyable! Doesn't need to always end in orgasm to have been fun and worthwhile (although it usually does of course!)

Alcohol thins blood. Blood is necessary for an erection. An orgasm is a rush of blood flow. Therefore, whiskey dick. Happens to most people.

I find this to be true, too. Drunken sex is fun and enjoyable and sometimes a bit on the kinky side.
I'm almost 60, fwiw, and sex doesn't have to end in an orgasm for me.

OP here. Last night I told DH I wanted to test something - sex before he has a drink. Thankfully he was game and the whiskey dick theory proved to be true. Now he wants to test out what the effect of one drink is so he can determine his limit. I told him I need to wait a couple of days!

When I drink I can go forever, and still have a great O pretty much on command.

Are we defining "whiskey dick" the same? I had always heard of "WD" as being not being able to get it up because of drinking too much.
