Expectant and Postpartum Moms
| I am 35 weeks and my bras are starting to get tight. Not the cup but rather around the sides and back which I know is due to my ribs expanding. If I want to buy some more bras for the last few weeks, I plan to buy nursing bras. I was going to buy one cup size up and one my current cup size but was unsure whether I should buy the next size (ie from 36 to 38) or are my ribs going to go back down right away or is it going to take awhile? thanks |

takes a while.
I wore 34C before pregnant. Nursed in a 40DD. Eventually returned to 34C. |

You may want to buy the extenders for your bras. I am using the Medela nursing bras (delivered 2 weeks ago yesterday) and the ones that I found are the most comfortable are these - http://www.amazon.com/Medela-Comfort-Maternity-Nursing-Bra/dp/B0008MFDEI you can purchase them in the store at Buy Buy Baby and the nice thing about purchasing them now is you may not want to venture out after your baby is born. The other nice thing about this bra is that once your milk comes in they will still fit since it's not an actual cup. Sadly I've found that the bras with the cup aren't as comfortable and I'm a DD and I still recommend this bra. If you do go to Buy Buy to purchase them try them on as they do not allow returns on bras.
Best wishes! |

I agree with waiting to get the nursing bras until after your milk comes in and trying the extenders now. The PP mentioned going from a 34 to a 40, but I barely am in a 34 after being a 32 pre-preg. and right up until around week 37 during. So, as you can see it depends person to person. for what it is worth I was a ddd pre-pg. and went up to a G during pregnancy but only gained one cup size to an H once milk came in.
I appreciated being able to stay in underwire during preg. too which now is off limits for a few more weeks. |
| Definitely don't buy a whole bunch of nursing bras now. Maybe ONE if you really want to. I was in the same situation and I bought some of those bra extenders (I think they sold them at Motherhood Maternity; surely other places too), which were a blessed relief. I also bought a "sleep" nursing bra that was very inexpensive light cotton. Even that was too small/unsupportive when my milk came in - whoa mama! But at least I had something I could put on. I went from 38/40D (late pregnancy) to 36DDD (while nursing). I highly recommend getting a nursing bra fitting, too. They can do them at the Breastfeeding Center in downtown DC among other places. |
| I bought 2 cheap but good quality bras a filene's basement at the end of my pregnancy. Bought several nursing bras over the course of the following year. What I liked at first, I didn't like later... I'm still nursing a toddler, and back to using my normal bras. |
| I agree on waiting and getting an extension in between- the change was so big during pregnancy that i thought it would be too after birth- but it "oinly" went up one size and I bought some bra for nothing.. the sports bras are more flexible for support before you know.. |
| Just don't stay in a sports bra too long; I understand that too-tight bras can lead to breastfeeding problems (plugged ducts? decreased supply? I can't remember...) |
| My favorite is a Bravada nursing bra. I wore them nursing with Baby #1 and have just started wearing them again during my last few weeks with Baby #2. |
