"Cross-Posting" and Listserv Question

Anonymous
Jeff: Over the past couple of weeks I have noticed a big increase in people who post the same exact thing on multiple forums, and even say that they're "cross-posting" to get a better response. Are they supposed to do this? I find it unnecessary and annoying. If they're not, can you put a sticky somewhere that tells them not to?

And, I thought For Sale postings on the DCUM listserv were supposed to be kept to a minimum. Over the last couple of weeks there have been a number of individual posters sending five, six or more separate emails listing each item for sale. Also annoying and I recall that you asked listserv members not to do that and instead to send one message containing info about everything for sale.

Thanks!

I have noticed both things that you point out and both of them have irritated me as well. I've been hesitant to do anything about either of these because I wasn't sure if anyone else was bothered and I don't like to constantly enforce my own personal preferences. So, I'll solve that problem by enforcing your preferences instead

Instead of posting stickies -- which I would have to do in just about every forum -- I'll try to handle the cross-posting cases individually. I'll begin rejecting the for sale posts on the list as well.

Thanks, Jeff and glad to be of service!

Also, I have a Treo and can't get to DCUM either but mine is not that old - can I try the test site in the other thread as well? TIA!

Yes, please do the test and then let me know when you have done it so that I can check the results.

Done, thanks again. Like the other OP I used to have access but have a message that I can't access this server.

Different poster, but glad to know I am not the only one annoyed by cross-posters! I think most people look in multiple forums and will see the messages without the need for cross-posting.

Jeff - thanks for cleaning it up! You run a great board!

I didn't understand the cross-posting thing either. Most people use the recent topics link and when you do both posts appear. It's just unnecessary.

Your browser also says that it's Windows 98 compatible. Since this is apparently common with the Treos, I've disabled the block on Windows 98. If I see an increase of spam coming from Windows 98 browsers, I'll use a somewhat more sophisticated method of blocking them.
