This is definitely a TMI topic but I need some advice.
I am developing a varicose vein on my labia. I showed the spot to my midwife today and she confirmed that it's not a varicose vein now, but probably would become one with a 2nd pregnancy. I read about them online. They do go away after the baby's born and are caused by pressure from the weight of the baby/uterus. They're also genetic so if your mom had them... The midwife suggested wearing a pad, or those padded bicycle shorts to give extra support to the area. But, the spot is at the very top and center of my labia--hard to imagine how bike shorts would support that area, but I'm not a biker so what do I know. I guess a pad might work, but it would have to be one of those bigger thick ones. One of the joys of pregnancy (for me) is not having to wear a pad! Has anyone else had this problem? And, if so, what did you do to reduce the discomfort (pain and itching), prevent it from worsening? Thanks so much for whatever ideas/advice you might have. |
UGH! I felt your pain, literally,I had thnis exact problem with my second child, this is reason #1 why there will not be a third. I had one right on the edge of my labia and as the pregnancy went on, it got worse and worse. I used this type of jock strap for women with a "vulvar varicosity" or a "vulvular varicosity." I did not have this with #1 child, THANK GOD because mine was extremely painful. THe good thing is Yes, it goes away after pregnancy, but it takes a few weeks. Depending upon location, you may not want any sexual intimacy at the end of your pregnancy because all that did for me was make it hurt much worse.
I used the support garment from the website below: http://www.prenatalcradle.com/v2.htm I found them at a store in Rockville that fit me for them and thjey also fit nursing bras, but I can't remember the name of the place. As if pregnancy is not bad enough, try feeling attractive in that thing. However, it did make it feel better. Plus, my doctor told me to elevate my legs to help keep swelling down. Don't worry once the pregnancy is over you'll be back to normal at least that's how it worked for me. |
OP here.
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR YOUR POST! I'm so relieved to have this helpful suggestion, though I don't look forward to wearing that do-hickie! Thank you! Thank you! Thank you! |
So sorry. I had one too. My midwives suggested I ice the area and that helped immensely. Also, to continue to walk and swim in order to assist with blood flow. I had my baby three weeks ago and have had no problems with it since. Also, the less you stay off of your feet the less pressure you should feel.
Take care. |
I am sorry you have to go through this! About TMI, it wouldn't be TMI if we talked about our legs, so no worries if it is your labia. Still just your body. ![]() |
I just wanted to add that mine was larger in my second pregnancy, but not as painful.
Also, after both pregnancies, it was mostly gone by the time I got home from the hospital after my c-sections. |
