Well women aren't sexual perverts so..... I question any man.who.opts for a non traditional career. He must have ulterior motives.

I question women this way too. Women construction workers, airplane pilots, truck drivers, security guards. Clearly they're up to no good!

No silly. See if women want to stereotypically male jobs or girls want to play with "boys' toys" we all need to break down those stereotypes. Girls can play with cars and want to be mechanics! Awesome!

Now if boys want to play with dolls or become a nanny or daycare teacher...Well there is something wrong with them.

Totally different. See, you need to assume all men are about sex and sex only. Then from that group, come the men who will take sex however they can get it. And from that group you need to take the men who will involve children too. So going back to the "all men care only about sex" it is safe to assume that any man who wants to get involved on close level of children is part of that pedophile group. Otherwise why would any man have an interest in that? It's traditionally a woman's job. Didn't you know that gender inclusion only applies to women but it's still totally ok to have gross stereotypes of men?

Now I see you are totally trying to prove a point with sarcasm.

Sadly, I see that you are probably correct. Otherwise there wouldn't be people asking questions like OP just did.

Ma, is that you? Stop telling DD that wherever she goes, there are 7 billion men around her trying to rape her. I literally took her outside our apartment to count all the men we could see and made her tell me what each was doing. We counted 9. Two were homeless men sleeping, one was putting gas in his car, two were doing laundry, one was walking towards a mailbox (away from us), one was walking towards us and actually looked at us, and two were random husband/dad types. Stop watching FOX News, but if you can't, at least stop trying to make DD paranoid.

Pp here. Unfortunately I've seen this dynamic played out more times than I would care to mention. It really irks me and has jaded me against a lot of "feminists". I have some friends who are true feminists, but sometimes they seem to be overtaken by women who think like what I posted.

I know what you mean. I consider myself a true feminist and as soon as I saw the title, it irked the he** out of me.

My instinct is to say no, I wouldn't like it. However, this summer my son had a camp counselor who was amazing. I mean he was just so awesome with the kids. One of the best I've ever seen. He is actually a preschool teacher in DC, and I would've been thrilled if this guy was her teacher.

I don't think that most molesters are like this. I am an abuse survivor as well.

Teachers don't help with toileing in our preschool.

What about male gyn or OB's? Breast surgeons?

OP here. I wasn't expecting so many comments so quickly. I was just surprised because I am used to female preschool teachers. I think it's the norm. I asked here because on some level I know I'm being ridiculous and what better place than an anonymous forum? After thinking about it I think it will be a good thing and am already over it. Thank you - I actually like the comments on here like "you are mental" because they are a good reality check.

My DS went to a preschool in which 4 of the 12 teachers on staff were men. It was nice for there to be a significant minority of male staff, beyond just 1 man, so that men as teachers there was normal and common. I thought that was good role modeling for my DS, that men can be teachers of young children, its not all women all the time, as it is in many places.

There's a male teacher at my daughter's preschool. He's really sweet with the kids. I'm pretty sure that he only helps the boys in the bathroom, and our preschool has a rule that there always have to be two adults in the room--no adult is ever alone with a kid. I think it's wonderful for kids to have a mix of teachers. There are a lot of non-perverted men who just really like kids and are great with them!

I wish there were more. I had a male PK teacher in 1986. He I still remember how wonderful and nurturing he was. I think it was very important for me to have that role model as a woman because I saw from early on that men can and should be early ed teachers and can be loving and nurturing.

DD had a male preschool teacher when she was 4. He was AMAZING with the kids and he's now moved on to being a wonderful kindergarten teacher. She's also had male teachers for 1st and 4th grade and they've all been great and particularly good at encouraging her interest in science.

You have all the right in the world to be concerned over the best care for your daughter. If it sets your mind at ease then talk to the director and see what the policy is. But, this might be the best teacher your daughter will ever encounter!! Trust your mom heart. I would think twice myself because of the things I have been through! Good Luck.
