I would expect it is hard to hire a Divorce Lawyer if you have no money. At $400 an hour it gets expensive quick. Unless there are some women's support group type lawyers available that I don't know of.

2. For any accounts that have a balance, withdraw it. (Either Joint or accounts that other may have access to)

3. Find you check book and lock it up

Get a cash advance on any joint credit card accounts, up to the credit limit. Before he does it. That will keep him from using those accounts as they will be at their credit limit and he is responsible for paying off those accounts, same as you (but you have the cash).

Talking to a lawyer is worthless. You have to act on your own first.

Make sure your pay and all monies never go to joint acct again. Also after you get paid withdraw max cash to stash away (eg with a friend). If it's in the bank (even individual acct) it's still marital property. Also feel free to take cash from the credit cards, liquidate everything you can.

Op here. Yes, I've had a job all along and fortunately have other monies. He's been taken off the joint credit card and account changed, so with joint bank account now at zero, seems like financial damage for the moment is contained.
