I'm ready for a make-up overhaul. I've been using the same brand (Clinique) FOREVER and I'm sick of it. What I'm most interested in is a good recommendation for foundation and concealer. I'm 39 but still experience the occasional breakouts so I need something with moderate coverage, but that won't settle into my fine lines ![]() |
I really like Bobbi Brown b/c it's natural and not too "made up". I always try to go to the most expensive store and pick the best looking sales person to help me too b/c they usually know what they are doing. Good luck!

I agree with Bobbi Brown. I have used every brand out there-I LOVE make up. But have found Bobbi Brown the best. They have a great under the eye concealer. I use it daily.Kristina at Nordstroms in Tysons is great however she is on maternity leave. They have a few others who are ok..I was in there yesterday and picked the sales girl by how her make up looked. Not the best way, but hey it worked I suppose.
Have fuN! |
I love Benefit Your Lyin Eyes concealer, Prescriptives foundation and *gulp* La Mer tinted powder. On those get ready quick days, the powder is all I need for a little coverage. It is VERY exp - but lasts forever. |
MAC girl, here. I love their stuff. It's not too expensive and lasts a long time. They also have a return three/free lipstick recycle program, which I think is pretty cool. I have sensitive skin and nothing of theirs has broken me out. The pressed powder is all I wear w/ a little concealer every day. I highly recommend it!

I'm also a Bobbie Brown girl, with some Laura Mercier thrown in. I use the smooth skin foundation (to help with those lines!) and mix it in with some moisturizer for great coverage. For concealer, I use Laura Mercier. Eyes, I use Bobbie Brown gel eyeliner (it's the best eyeliner EVER - EVER). Blush - Bobbi Brown Shimmer Bricks (I hate the blush look and prefer a more sheer color), Lips - Chanel's On Glossamer in Pin Up (Amazing lip gloss) |
I swear by the La Prairie Skin Caviar Foundation, which comes with a concealer in a separate compartment. I tried so many other brands (Chanel, Dior, Bobby Brown, Lancome, etc.) but nothing works as well for me as this one...Pricey but worth it, IMO. |
And get on the Nordstrom mailing list with Bobbi Brown, or anything you get there--they'll send you postcards or call when they have special events, freebies, etc., so you can try new items |
you know, makeup totally depends on your skin type. My skin type is very sensitive yet dry. I like the look of bobbi brown but found her stuff too drying for my skin. Even the lipsticks. I find MAC works best for me. With makeup, you just have to try it and see how it works on your skin. |
MAC or Bare Essentials is great, my mom who is in her mid-50's loves both. Doesn't do or need foundation.

I really like Bobbi Brown too but also wanted to suggest you give Trish McEvoy a try and I have a foundation by Stila that I love -- they now only sell Stila at Sephora (used to be everywhere) so if you get to a Sephora, you can test it out. |
Wow, so many great recommendations -- thanks! Has anyone had experience going to Sephora for a makeover, or just to get some assistance buying new makeup? I figure that might be the way to go versus a department store since they sell everything and the dept stores have individual counters. |
Ooooo Sephora is really hit and miss depedning on the person you get. Sometimes they employ little teeny boppers who have no clue. |
