I'm looking to book a vacation in December We've had a couple of blow out trips this year and this one needs to reasonably priced and doesn't need to be super exciting. We'll rent an airbnb so I'm not looking for resort recommendations but would welcome either suggestions of areas to consider or specific rental properties you have stayed in with kids and loved. The criteria are:
- Somewhere warm. This is really the most important. Not pregnant or planning to be so not worried about Zika. - Somewhere with something interesting to do - like a water park, or a theme park or something for a day. I have two boys aged 6 and 8. - Somewhere where I can rent a place that won't cost several thousand. We can fly anywhere and cost is no issue there (we can fly for free because of DH's job) but vacation rental needs to be reasonable. Thanks for any suggestions! |
Puerto Rico. |
Florida. Orlando if you're going on an off week and can do a theme park or two, or sanibel/Marco island if you're not into the theme park thing. Cheap flights, cheap rentals, warm. |
Look at the Waldorf property in Puerto Rico. We almost went this summer. It has a waterpark attached to it. |
I would try to rent a condo at Harborfront at Atlantis in the Bahamas via VRBO. Little boys love waterslides. |
We stayed in Condado (San Juan) this summer. We could walk to plenty of restaurants and the grocery store. Short Uber ride to Old San Juan. Your kids will love the forts and pigeon park. A tour of the rain forest (el yunque), then a few days on the beach and at the pool. All of this without a car. If you do rent a car you can go to Camuy Caves and the Radio Telescope in Arecibo. Our airbnb was OK, not positive I would recommend it. The apt was a B but the location was an A+ It was 2 bedrooms 2 bathrooms, with 2 beds in one bedroom to technically perfect for you. |
Aruba |
I would go to Grand Turk but only because it's somewhere I've been wanting to go, quiet and tiny with really good snorkeling/scuba and just enough restaurants.
Second choice Little Cayman. |
OP here - thanks everyone some great ideas. Have spent a few hours googling and think some of these are just what we are looking for. |

Let these guys plan your trip and be surprised! I would do that if I had more disposable income and didn't still have a long list of places I want to see. |
