SLAC then to Wall Street?

Anonymous
Kid is a recruited athlete who will end up at a SLAC. His goal is to work on Wall Street. I hoped to steer him to a larger university with strronger programs in finance. But he would not be able to play at those schools. Is a SLAC to Wall Street dream a pipe dream?

My nephew did it from Colby.

I went to a NESCAC SLAC, as did my sister and BIL, who both work in finance, as do many of my classmates. There are plenty of students who go from SLACs to Wall Street. It's as well-trod and unimaginative a path as it is from D1 schools.

+1 Agree. My brother is an investment banker with a undergrad degree from Carleton. DH also works in finance with an engineering degree from a big state school (and a subsequent MBA). Lots of ways to get to finance, staying there for an entire career and advancing is tough, and those who grit it out into their forties and beyond come from a surprising variety of backgrounds. FWIW, Colgate in another SLAC with good placement into finance.

Interesting, I'm a Carleton alum and IB is not a typical path from Carleton. Glad things have changed a bit. In my MBA program the SLACs that seemed to send the most kids to the IBs were Williams and Middlebury. Hamilton and Colgate also have a lot of kids follow that path.

Another +1 re Colgate from an alum. Great network for Wall Street.

Any college with rich kids from CT and NY will have Walk Sy connections.

Please grace us, Oh Virtuous One, with the many ways that you are contributing to the well being of mankind. But wait, you are just some schmuck posting on a website on a Friday night. Boring and utterly derivative, indeed.

Depends on the SLAC and who recruits on campus and where they have connections. NESCAC, sure. Carleton, yeah.

Across the river from Carleton, much harder though better today than when I was there.

Tons of kids from Middlebury go into finance.

I know one from Wesleyan who majored in psych and music and became a BofA VP. He burned out and became an entrepreneur.

I've heard Trinity is good for finance. Why does your son want to work with the sleazy pigs on Wall Street?

You're back!

Why do you want to be a sleazy politician? Why do you want to be bought by capitalists?

I know lots of people from my SLAC that ended up at Wall Street. The most common careers seemed to be wall street, law school, or publishing/editing.
