Workout Equipment

If you cuold purchase one piece of cardo-focused workout equipment, what would it be (i.e., treadmill, bike, precor, etc.)? I am moving into a house and FINALLY have room for a piece of equipment. I had my second child several months ago and am working on getting back to my pre-baby #1 weight. Thanks!

We love our treadmill. I feel like it is the most versatile of the equipment. You can walk, run, sprint, do hills. Plus you are using your arms.

I never get bored of walking/running but I feel like the bike and the stairclimber get old. I like doing them at the gym sometimes but not all the time.

We have a treadmill and an elliptical. We use both of them, but if I could only choose one, I would also go for the treadmill.

Everyone I know loves their Wii Fit more than their equipment. I've never tried it though.

Personally, I would prefer an elliptical because I can run outside (weather permitting). I MUCH prefer outdoor running to a treadmill. Plus, I can put the kiddos in the jog stroller so they can come with me.

i have a cheap-ish treadmill and while it's definitely not as good as the ones at the gym, it's not bad. only cost me $700. i have a gym membership so i don't use it much, but it definitely came in handy during maternity leave, snowstorms, etc.

re: ellipticals - there can be a huge difference in price between the better and worse ellipticals - the cheaper ones tend to feel kind of unstable. My dad has a cheap one and it sucks. I'm an arc trainer fan and the gym-quality ones with the moveable arms are $4,000 - ouch.

you might want to define your price range and maybe go from there - see what your budgeted amount would buy you. and heck, maybe you could find used pieces and buy both! (the treadmills that fold up don't take up tons of room when folded.)

I'd prob go for some sort of weights system. But, I MUCH prefer outside running to a dread-mill.

Take that back . . . I'd get a stair climber system. Great for legs and booty.

I don't know anything about arc trainer, but we have a gym-quality elliptical from Life Fitness and it costs around $2000--pricey, yes, but nowhere near $4000. Since my husband and I both use it and we don't have a gym membership, it was worth the cost to us.

I go for exercise bikes, but because of price and floor space (decently small, I get ones that are easy to move- have wheels). If price and size were no option, I'd go for an eliptical.

No matter what, try out the models before buying. Even with boring old bikes, I find some models to be very uncomfortable.

Our Precor Elliptical is awesome. Cost about $2000 at Liesure Fitness. Quieter than a treadmill and no impact. Also, I basically use it when the weather is gross and i cant run outside.
