Should I pay him for date?

Anonymous
I met a guy online. He seems nice but I was reluctant to meet him. I finally agreed to a date but an emergency came up and I forgot to let him know. He was pretty mad and said he waited over an hour ( he ate lunch). He's a lawyer and said since I stood him up, I owe him $550 ( client hourly rate) for his time. He wants me to meet him with cash. I think this is ridiculous.

Wow. Good for you that you didn't waste an hour on him.

It's laughable! Block his email, OP. And never think of him again.

Oh please, Oh please, post his name. The social media world would have a field day and you two would probably make all the talk shows. We'd even set up a "go fund me" page to make you whole. People Magazine would love this. Think of the law firm he works at and how they would just love the publicity.

+1, name and shame OP! This situation is pretty much genetically engineered for viral success in the social media age!

OP here. I'm not disclosing his name or want anything going viral. I think it's laughable. I told him to grow up.

This is insane. I ignore him but write a review online

Fiiiiiine, be reasonable about it if you must. Good for you for laughing him off, such a stupid request for him to make.

Tell him he should have asked for a signed contract with the cancellation policy spelled out.

Guess he won't be getting any.

I doubt he's really expecting the money but he's obviously really pissed off over being stood up. Put yourself in his shoes. You made him feel like a fool. I hope that was a real emergency that you didn't think to call off the date. Of course you don't pay him, but obviously he's mad as hell and I probably would be, too if I were him.

NP here.
Well he must not be a good lawyer if he does not know that it is illegal to bill for "services" without an agreement to such ahead of performance.

But in all seriousness, i am glad you all can now see what !@#?@!# I had to put up with for 20 years living in DC and trying to find a professional date that didnt have his head up his arse worse that if I were dating someone without an education. DC is dating hell and I am glad to read your post to let the world know. There wasn't internet in my dating years, but this speaks to my experience 1000 percent.

I say go public with it and show what friggin twits DC lawyers. You will be a hero to us all. Women, stop dating the DC dweebs just to say you went out with a lawyer. Conceited asses they are.
