Not halfway but worth the drive, Asheville NC. Raleigh Durham would be the closest thing to halfway 45 min - 1hour longer for you. |

OP, I'm from Columbia and my family and I have had this situation in the past. The problem is, there is nothing remotely appealing between DC and Columbia, at least directly so.
My advice is to go a bit astray, as other PPs have suggested. Asheville is good, as is Williamsburg/ VA Beach area. Maybe Wilmington at the beach? |
