DS has been doing some kinda weird things sometimes when we are out in public. If someone says hi, he tries to hide behind me or he will kind of put his hand out in front of his eyes like he's hiding or hide behind a corner and peek out while smiling. Sometimes he will also turn sideways and kind of extend his hand out like he's trying to take the persons hand but he won't look at the person. I've had people refer to it as "flirting" cause he usually does it around women, or "he's being shy" in an endearing way, but it kind of seems a little weird to me. He started doing it about a month or so, he's 21 months. Is this normal or just a phase or something? |
Sounds cute! |
If a little kid that age did that to me in public I would thibk it was normal behavior for that age. |
Yeah that's pretty freaking normal. Your anxiety or worry over it is not. |
Normal |
Have you never been around any child ever? This is beyond normal - it's like a toddler rite of passage. |
Normal. |
I'm the OP, I guess Ive never spent time around young kids like that Until now, that's why I was asking. |
OP here. Thanks everyone. I wasn't that anxious about it, just wanted to know if it was normal or not. I guess I don't have that much kids experience so figured I'd just ask |
I thought of weird greetings like the SNL name guy!
![]() Whew, what a relief! |
OP here, thanks for the laugh! Hahaha |
Don't stress about it. My 4 year old started doing this with his teachers at school for some reason and has been for months. It's like his tradition each morning we see them. I honestly get kind of irritated with it because he's pulling on me when I have his bag and am carrying his little brother, but it works for him and his teachers play along. No big deal. Just a game. |
Normal!!!!!!!! |
It’s perfectly normal, mama. Please don’t worry. Hugs. |
What would be weird and worrisome would be a 21 month old child who could navigate a social situation with aplomb and who was not shy with strangers. That, my dear, would be very, very, weird. |
