About 5 of 10 messages I get when I'm online offer to take me shopping. What are the guys intentions with this? I find it a little weird since we haven't met yet.

Financial domination??

Intention: to treat you like a prostitute.

Many of the men have a specific type. They want you in the heels and dress and shoes etc that they like

It's long been said that women out number the men in this area. Yet, if online dating is an accurate indicator, women receive far more introductory e-mails than do men. Of course, not all of them are particularly "gentlemanly."

I had a guy from OkCupid find me on Twitter, somehow use that username to find my Venmo, and send me daily "tributes." I had no idea what this was and messaged him to find out and he said he enjoyed being financially dominated. I had him stop sending me the monies, as I had no intention to do anything with him and it felt weird, but after looking into it, apparently it's just a thing some guys are into.

There is no such thing as a free lunch.

Once you accept money or clothing from a man, in his mind you owe him your entire soul!

Don't be fair game!!!!!!

When I online dated, I had been contacted with an offer to take me to expensive restaurants, on helicopter rides, and on vacations. No one ever offered to whip out his American Express at Neiman Marcus. That would really freak me out. I'd probably edit my profile to get rid of any content that might give the impression that a shopping spree is they key to my heart. Or other body parts.

The recent thread on who pays for dinner on a date suggests otherwise.

My idea of first date activities would include bowling, walking around a pedestrian-friendly downtown-style area, watching a movie, going to a museum, or maybe going to a sporting event of some sort.

It has never occurred to me -- and granted I'm married, so maybe dating is different now than in the gay 90s -- to take some woman I'd never met shopping, much less at a high end store.

Now as part of "doing errands together" with a long-time GF, sure. And if it's "I spend $100, she would spend $10" I might pick up her item, or if I saw something at (low or medium end store of choice) I thought she might like (or I'd like her in it), I'd do it.

BigLaw (tm) men really do lead different lives.

Wow. All of you are crazy. Mind sharing what website you use?

Men are morons. Why would you fork over all this money if you have not even met the woman?
