Which is faster and easier in terms of getting a rental car and getting on our way?
We'll have little kids in tow. |
| I've never done Tampa, but Fort Meyers is not a busy airport. If I recall correctly, you don't need to take a shuttle to the car rental counters, I think it was just a walk out the door to another building. I'll let others respond if I'm wrong. |

Tampa is a great airport -- one of the best in the country. The rental cars are easy to get to ... no shuttles for the big ones. Very well organized. |
| No shuttles at Fort Myers either. I recommend Hertz Gold Club (free) - skips the lines. |
| I prefer RSW because it's smaller and less crowded. I love the ease with which I get in and out. (It's also closer to Naples, which is my final destination when I'm down there) |
| I've flown in and out of both, but this spring was twice at Ft. Myers. So easy. And I'm a single mom traveling with two kids, lots of luggage, and got a rental car. Cinch. |

Both are good airports so I'd probably go with the one closer to my final destination.
Given an equal choice between the two, I'd go to Ft. Myers due to smaller size and volume. |

I would do Tampa more flight options in case something goes wrong or you schedule changes.
Plus the chills in the SW terminal does margaritas to go! |

It depends on where you are going. I tend to like Tampa better because there are more flights. If weather or something else messes up your flight to Fort Myers, you are really stuck because there aren't a whole lot of other flights to choose from.
I find the Tampa airport pretty easy to get around in. |
| I've been flying in and out of rsw for 30 years- terminal is new, food choices are awful and security can be slow and more aggressive than Dulles! Rental cars are in a building across from terminal a you exit baggage claim and walk across pick up lanes into rental car building. I've done Tampa a bunch of times but literally can't remember |
| Tampa has kids play areas--a lifesaver! |
