Bethesda versus NW for Daycare

I'm relocating to the area with a newborn. I'd like to go back to work in the fall, so I'm doing what I can to make some daycare arrangements. Here's my question: we are trying to decide whether to rent in Woodley Park or Bethesda. All else equal, we'd probably take the place in Woodley because it's closer to work, but I've got the impression that the daycare options are significantly better in Bethesda. Is that right? We're on lists at Children in the Shoe and Family Academy in Bethesda, and Kinderhaus in Cleveland Park. We're also on lists at several centers downtown, but they all have 2 year waits.

The centers you named are all good quality centers but there is no way to know when and if you will get of the waiting lists. Most people I know in NWDC (where we live) do a nanny or nanny share until they either get off a list or their child is old enough for preschool. I definitely wouldnt make a decision about where to live based on possibly getting into a childcare center, as it may never happen.

There is also in Bethesda: Wonders, Childtime and one more that I forgot. My kids are at Children in the Shoe and when I went through the daycare search, albeit 5 years ago, the places in Bethesda had much shorter waiting lists and cheaper, or no waiting list fees. We got off the waitlists at the Shoe and Family Academy after 2-3 months.
You will have better luck getting a spot for the Fall than any other time of year as a lot of kids leave in the summer therefore freeing up places.
