I wish I could be more specific about where exactly I need a daycare, but we haven't locked down an apartment yet. We're moving from Chicago to DC or Silver Spring at the end of July, and have both children enrolled in Evergreen Montessori in Silver Spring to start in September 2016 and January 2017. I need a daycare for my daughter in that gap time (between August and December 2016). Any recommendations in DC proper and Silver Spring?
I just want a facility with a moderate caretaker to child ratio (nothing more than 1 to 7) and lots of play options for the children during the day. I don't need anything academic. My daughter will be 19 months on August 1. |
| You're going to struggle to find a short-term spot. Look into nanny shares. |
| Goddard in DTSS just opened and they might take kids on a short-term basis while they fill up. It's honestly kind of academic for my tastes, but might work in the short term. |
| Good luck with that. I had a really hard time finding a spot for my DS at 18 months. At 18 months ratios are likely to be around 1:4 but will move up to 1:8 when they get closer to 3. May be up to 16 kids in one room. Outdoor spaces can be tough to find but some of the federal centers have playgrounds (although again, good luck on the wait list). nanny share is much more likely. |

I've spoken to Bright Eyes at Glen Haven Elementary, but I haven't visited. It's less than 5 minutes away from Evergreen Montessori. Their 2-year-old class (starting at 24 months) has a 1:7 ratio, so I'm sure the 12-month-old class (what you'd be using) has a lower ratio. They're week-to-week with a 30-day notice for withdrawal, I believe. They didn't mention any annual contracts when I spoke to them. Their prices are fairly reasonable for the area, at least for 2-year-olds and preschool (I believe under $250/week for full-day in those classes). I don't know their 12-month-old prices. Here's their link: http://www.brighteyeschildcare.com/#!glen-haven-elem/ciea
Good luck on your move! |
| 21:08 there. To be clear, we haven't visited because my child would no longer be able to commute to his MCPS school program via bus if he went there. We may look into more soon, but our child really loves that school bus ride. The director seemed lovely over the phone at Bright Eyes! |
| There is a Goddard near NW DC. Good Luck. |
