All-in-One Cloth Diapers

Considering using cloth diapers, specifically all-in-ones. My reasons for considering cloth diapers is to save money (sorry but the environment is secondary for me) but I am not willing to deal with all the steps and pieces involved in the non-AIOs. We have a W/D and I'd be able to do laundry every day or every other day. Anyone had good or bad experiences with AIOs? Any recommendations on brands?

They have good discussions about cloth diapering -- lots of recommendations -- on mothering.com. There's a forum specifically devoted to cloth diapering. Also, there aren't flamers on that board. We haven't started diapering yet, but we're getting our diapers from http://abbyslane.com/, run by a SAHM in VA.

I am also considering all-in-one cloth diapers. My SIL used cloth diapers exclusively with her DD and raves about the all-in-ones. She gets hers from Green Mountain diapers. There's a lot of useful information on that website:

I have AIO's from Bumkins and I am not too crazy about them. They still leak at night. They are not too tight around her legs. I do a cover with a prefold or a cover with a fitted diaper - which I actually like much better. At night, I usually use a disposable diaper to keep from leaks.

I usually wash every 3 days b/c after that it starts to smell.

Yeah, we use a disposable at night, too. We use pre-folds with diaper covers. I like the idea of all-in-ones but we're super-cheap so went with pre-folds, etc.

OP -- I started out with a variety of fitteds and pocket diapers. I thought prefolds with covers would be more complicated. I ordered a few though and found that they were actually easier than I thought to deal with. We've since switched to mostly prefolds. Snappis make all the difference. I'd have scars all over my fingers if I had to use pins. And if cost is a consideration (is was for us) prefolds have a pretty big edge there.

Those AIOs are still great for overnight (with a doubler) or for trips out though. I'd recommend Thirties fitteds, after trying several brands.

12:11 poster -- you should give Thirsties a try too. As cute as they are I've never heard anything but bad reviews of Bumkins AIOs.

Finally, another big thumbs up for Abby's Lane.

HTH -- Good luck!

I agree with poster 20:13, prefolds with the diaper covers are not that hard to deal with. I actually don't see the need form AIO's - maybe that is b/c the ones I use leak but the prefolds are just as easy. Or for a cheaper option than AIO's but similar to AIO's you can try fitted diapers with covers.

I use greenmountaindiapers.com they prices are very reasonable. I use the super whisper wraps and they are great.
