I think this needs to be figured out first before any branding can happen. Let's not put the cart before the horse.

I asked AP Sanders about when they'd start working on programming / selling points for the comprehensive part of the school. He said he's looking at developing that starting around late Fall of this year once the dual-language program is up and running. Given that we're a couple of years from having that part of the school open, that seems reasonable to me. I think he's got the message that we're looking for something special, not just a school that opened.

They are going to start making marketing materials since the school is opening for next year. What they're looking for on branding is just feedback on the way those materials look. Is the school name written in English and Spanish? Just parts?

Seems to me they are overthinking it.

Oyster and now Adams aren't branded with both English and Spanish names, at least not formally. And among the charters only YuYing and Mundo Verde use another language in their name.

MacFarland Middle School seems fine.

Not to be cynical, but I would prefer they use their energy on figuring out the programming than worrying about branding. Two years may be an adequate amount of time, but not if that time is not spent wisely.

I agree. I'm sure someone has a nice PR contract to do this "work."

So, not being inclusive is bad. And reaching out for input is bad. OK...

They probably haven't had time to let the contract, that's why they're crowdsourcing it

To PP, thanks for the feedback; cynicism is well earned in these parts.

Schools like Shepherd and Bancroft (older grades) are filled with OOB students that are guaranteed access to Deal. If OOB feeder rights were stopped, it wouldn't impact one or two particular neighborhood, it would be more fair, and would force people to look at other options. If you remove the only diverse schools from Deal, you're opening up a whole new issue. The OOB feeder rights is the easy, more attainable target.

That's one damn good idea.

So, chances are, it won't happen with this Mayor.

Agreed. As far as I can see (and our kids go there), it's called Oyster-Adams Bilingual School.
