This statement alone makes me skeptical of AMI. Maria Montessori wasn't God. She was a regular human being who had some specific ideas about education. She had some great ideas on how to educate slum children in Italy and make them into good factory workers. Since many of the skills that benefit factor workers in Italy, like self regulation, counting, and reading are pretty universal, many of her ideas translate well into modern practice, but since there are other skills that modern, college bound, American kids need, it makes sense to incorporate other methods. Education is about the only field I can think of where it's acceptable to dismiss all research from the past century. I can not for the life of me understand why this is. Would anyone feel the same way if their doctor limited herself to 100 year old methods? |
One of our babysitters was a teacher at Franklin. Same story: not well compensated and no benefits. |
Add me to the list of persons seriously disappointed with the gross lack of appropriate compensation of Franklin Montessori teachers. Over-worked, underpaid and no benefits. Considering their tuition, someone is certainly making a killing on this scam. Perhaps the absentee owner? |
|
Another Franklin parent here. We love the school and our daughter is very happy there. |
Don't you think their hard working teachers should be getting a decent wage? What about basic teacher benefits? Don't they deserve that?
Where's all that astronomical tuition going? |
I wonder if the absentee owner is checking this thread! ![]() |
Someone here has quite a grandiose perception of himself. |
I think if you look at any preschool in the area that has used off site playgrounds you will find that at some point they have all left a child behind. I'm not defending what happened at Franklin, only mentioning that I have heard this story before. And the fact that the director now goes to the playground every time since a child was left behind two years ago speaks to her commitment to ensuring the safety of the children at the school. And with all the commentary about compensation and wages of the teachers, let's remember that this was the director's mistake. She didn't move the child's from one list to the next and that is why the mistake took place. She made a mistake. It was a big one. But she's not bad and the school is not bad and the place should not be burned to the ground or shut down. Also not to be caddy but I overheard OP made a comment to the director as she was gathering the child from the playground that went something like,"I'm so glad I didn't send my child to your school." Talk about kicking someone when they are down- makes sense that she might not have been overly gracious towards her. Ok DCUM have at it. I know I'm about to receive an onslaught of horrible emails. |
They need to pay more teachers, but won't. |
This thread is 3 years old |
Why? Whoever revisited this thread just wants to stir up trouble. It has been 3 years! |
Have these issues been resolved? |
I'd hope the issues have been resolved. The original post is from 2016. If you'd like recent confirmation, then call the school or visit them. Again-it has been 3 years so hopefully they have rectified the situation |
Why would the school admit to their problems? |
